CNA alumni takes a bite out of the Big Apple

Time Square, the Empire State Building and a Broadway show are just a few of the sights and experiences CNA alumna Chante Goodyear took in during her recent trip to the Big Apple.

Chante was the grand prize winner of a trip to New York as part of College of the North Atlantic’s Alumni Reconnect contest in December 2016. The trip couldn’t have come at a better time for the Grand Falls-Windsor native, who said she needed a break after a hectic summer of working.

“The New York trip was a good break. I never got to do a whole lot this summer so it was really exciting to go somewhere and do a lot of stuff. We were down there for five days and it was jammed-packed the whole time, but it was nice because I got to do everything I wanted. I got to do things I had wanted to do (on my last trip) but didn’t get to do.”

What made it even more special was the adventure south of the border became a family affair for the Goodyear clan, as Chante’s mother, sister and grandmother came along to make it a girl’s trip.

Instead of visiting the Statue of Liberty again, they opted for a boat tour around the island.

“I was in New York a few years ago and it was awesome, so when I got the call (about winning the contest) I was even more excited because I love it there,” Chante said. “I had a great time. I got to do things I never got to do on my last trip like the Empire State Building and a Manhattan night cruise, which was beautiful. It was a two-hour cruise and you saw a lot of the island. It started at 7 p.m. so it was kind of daylight out and the tour ended at night time, so the lights were lit up.”

They also took in the Broadway show that everyone has been raving about.

“We went to a few street shows and we got to see Come From Away. That was the best Broadway show I have seen so far. It was an hour and a half long and it felt like half an hour. I could relate to it so much, I guess, because I’m from Newfoundland. It was a great show. I would recommend it to anyone. It was awesome.”

Chante is a graduate of the college’s Comprehensive Arts and Science: University Transfer program and a current student at Memorial University in St. John’s. The Alumni Reconnect prize, valued at $3,500, was held in partnership with TD Insurance Meloche Monnex.
