Meet our students: Aseel

Meet Aseel Elzamel, a first-year Software Development (Co-op) student from Egypt.

Q. Aseel, why did you choose your field of study and to come to CNA?

Since I was a kid, I’ve been on a wild mission—dismantling every toy and game in sight to understand how and why they work the way they do and rebuild to full functionality. Some were epic successes, others, well, not so much.

Fast forward, and I’m still on that exploration journey. I started with TVs and mobile phones but breaking them isn’t my thing anymore. Now, it’s all about the software side of things. Turns out, coding is way cooler than unscrewing stuff!

I am currently diving deep into the software development world to finally answer all the questions my younger self had.

Q. What are your thoughts about attending the Energy NL 2024 Conference?

The Energy NL Conference was a remarkable opportunity. It provided an excellent platform for networking, where I connected with numerous influential and knowledgeable individuals in the energy sector. The sessions and discussions were highly insightful, shedding light on the future of energy in Newfoundland and Labrador, particularly the shift towards sustainable practices and innovation.

Key takeaways from the conference included the significant advancements in renewable energy technologies and the growing emphasis on environmental responsibility. These developments are poised to transform the province’s energy landscape, fostering economic growth and sustainability. The experience not only broadened my understanding of current energy trends, but also inspired me to think more critically about the future possibilities in this field.

Overall, the Energy NL Conference was an enriching experience that highlighted the dynamic and evolving nature of the energy industry in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Q. What are your career aspirations?

My career aspirations as a software developer centre around leveraging technology to create innovative solutions that solve real-world problems. I am particularly passionate about working on projects that have a positive impact on society, whether through enhancing user experiences, optimizing business processes, or contributing to sustainable practices.

I aim to become proficient in a variety of programming languages and technologies, with a focus on mastering full-stack development.

In the long term, I aspire to take on leadership roles such as a senior developer or project manager, where I can guide and mentor teams, drive technical strategy, and ensure the successful delivery of projects. I am also interested in exploring emerging fields like artificial intelligence and machine learning, as they offer exciting opportunities to innovate and push the boundaries of what software can achieve. Continuous learning and professional growth are essential to my aspirations. I plan to stay updated with the latest industry trends and advancements, participate in relevant courses and certifications, and engage with the developer community. Ultimately, I envision a career where I can make a significant impact through technology, creating solutions that are both effective and sustainable.

Thank You to EnergyNL and this year’s Diversity and Inclusion Sponsors

The Energy NL 2024 conference underscored the vital importance of nurturing the next wave of energy professionals today. Diversity and inclusion are key to spurring innovation, solving the world’s complex energy problems, and ensuring a sustainable and inclusive industry powered by our brightest minds. College of the North Atlantic would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Diversity and Inclusion sponsors from industry for their commitment to the next generation of energy leaders and for making this experience possible for our students.
