From India to Newfoundland, this staffer shares her unique experience
What happens when you earn an opportunity more than 4,000 kilometres away in the dead of winter? College of the North Atlantic’s (CNA) Juby George tells us all the chilly details.
“My role as a Marketing Specialist involves developing creative marketing strategies and fresh ideas for campaigns that promote the college’s programs and initiatives,” she said. “I also analyze data to understand what’s working and where we can improve, ensuring our efforts are effective and targeted.”
George joined CNA’s Marketing and Communications team after leaving her job in Toronto, Ontario.
“I joined CNA on January 20, 2025, right in the middle of a Newfoundland winter,” she said. “It was the first month of the year, so while everyone else was still sticking to their New Year’s resolutions, I was busy figuring out a new province and new job in the cold winter.”
Her warm and welcoming personality enabled her to quickly make an impact, bringing a fresh perspective to the role.
“I contributed to CNA’s podcast, helping plan and support episodes that highlighted the voices and stories within our community,” she said. “Altogether, my work combines creativity, strategy, and analytics to strengthen CNA’s presence and engagement.”
Originally from India, she called Toronto home for the previous three years and admits the move out east hasn’t been all rainbows and butterflies.
“If I’m being honest, the move definitely wasn’t easy. Coming from Toronto, a big, fast-paced city where everything is accessible and easy to figure out,” she said. “St. John’s felt quite different at first. Things here move a little slower, and that took some getting used to.”
Working out of CNA’s Topsail Road Office, Juby not only brings her joie to vivre but a plethora of education as well.
“I have a Masters in English Language and Literature and later I did a post grad certificate in Public Relations and Corporate Communications,” she said. “Also, have another postgraduate certificate in Digital Engagement Strategy.”

Sink or swim
Although the move was hard work, George has zero regrets.
“What I missed in Toronto, I’ve found here: calm, natural beauty, and a sense of peace,” she said. “Back in Toronto, I’d look out my office window and see cars and buildings; now, I look out and see mountains and stunning landscapes. So, while the transition was challenging, it’s turned out to be completely worth it,” she said.
Now her focus is on embracing everything island life has to offer.
“St. John’s has such a unique charm, it really does feel like living in a small city with different vibes in every corner,” she said. “I absolutely love the colorful jellybean houses downtown and the waterfront views, with the water framed by little mountains, it’s breathtaking.”
When she’s not busy wandering the colorful streets of town, she’s juggling deadlines with the same enthusiasm.
“I love my job, I love it,” she said. “The people I work with and the projects, I am more like a small baby here who gets excited at the little things that I see and experience.”
Juby explains that’s its not only the tasks themselves but the people she gets to share her days with.
“I feel very lucky to be part of CNA’s work environment and truly appreciate the team,” she said. “The experience has taught me resilience, adaptability, and the joy of embracing new opportunities, both personally and professionally. I also learned that your manager could also be your dearest friend too.”
